July 27 – Corfe, Cliffs and the Best Fish

We were up earlier so we could say goodbye to John and Shelly as they left, packed the car ready for our departure, then headed over to the house for breakfast with the Dibdins.

After a farewell with many hugs and promises of return we drove to our first stop Corfe. We were able to visit St Edward’s Church (13th Century), where Will’s Grandparents were married. A beautiful building in the heart of the village. We then went to visit the grave of ‘Granny May’ and ‘Dibby’, Will’s great-grandparents.

Walking around Corfe was a really special time, particularly seeing Corfe Castle. We were able to have a spectacular view from the neighbouring hillside as we walked up Rollington Hill. We then shared a drink at the local pub, Bankes Arms, with local views. We even watched 3 large tractors skillfully weave their way down the main street.

Heading out of the little town, we then drove on to West Bay, through Bridport to see the town with more family history. We arrived at The George for check in then headed out to enjoy the surrounds. With a dip in the ocean, to walking the dramatic Jurassic cliffs (from below) it was time well spent. Our experience walking along the beach definitely reminded us that Perth had the best beaches in the world, when it comes to sand vs pebbles.

We then had fish & chips from ‘No. 8 Traditional’, enjoying them at the pier — Sarah has now ranked it as her best fish & chips meal ever! Then some more cliff walking (from above), this time from West Cliff. The views were like nothing we have experienced — truly spectacular. Sweets to reward all our hard walking didn’t go amiss. And a final view over the headland before our first and last day in a really special seaside town.
