We had a well deserved sleep-in before enjoying breakfast in the garden from our host of our Airbnb.

We then set off to drive through one last Cotswold town in Stanton, onto Worcester to pick up supplies for the road, discovering the joys of the Tesco meal-deal. Then we were off into Wales, driving through some lovely Welsh towns, stopped by some traffic as there was a sheep on the loose. After the farmer had chased it back into the paddock we were back on our way.

We were greeted with a traditional Welsh light misty rain as we made our way into Snowdonia National Park. Cadair Idris was the mountain we set off to climb, to do the lake in the middle called Llyn Cau. We followed All Trails guide which said the track was 6.6km with 465m elevation and classed as hard. Correct! The climb started with 30 minutes of steps and a steep hill, we passed hikers who had finished the walk, and lots of four legged friends, one needing some help getting down.

The path then plateaued out a bit and the views were amazing and getting better with every step. As we made it around the hill we could see the dramatic cliffs and peak of Cadair Idris. As we made it closer to the lake we could see the clouds blending into the cliffs, as we made it up to the lake, Sarah had a few too many blisters to continue on the loop, so I set off solo.

The view around the lake was spectacular and as I got around to the other side I decided to trek it up some of the cliff. I got about half way up before heading back down and around back to Sarah who had been enjoying just sitting and taking in the sights for the hour I was gone. The walk wasn’t complete without a lake swim, so I jumped in for a refreshing cold plunge.

We then headed back down the mountain, enjoying the sights as we returned back to the car park. We then drove north, making our way onto Llandudno after passing Conwy Castle which we will visit tomorrow. After checking in we are ready for an early night, a day full of great sights Wales has to offer. Tomorrow we head to Conwy Castle then check into our castle!
