Starting the day with an early walk along the Llandudno promenade and a coffee was something harder than we first thought as almost every cafe wasn’t open until 9am. After finding a cafe at a gym, we walked along the promenade, noticing how quiet it was. We were some of the only people walking around town at this time. After wandering back to our accommodation to check out, we were off to find Sarah some replacement shoes. There were one too many blisters with the boots. After finding the right ones (thank you Charlotte at the shop) the old-new boots will be taking the first flight back home. Bakeries are fantastic in Wales too; with a brekky bun and morning pasty we hit the road to Conwy.

Driving around the headland, looking over the Irish Sea was gorgeous. Driving into Conwy we were greeted with the spectacular sight of the Castle. It was built in the 13th century by Edward I and only took 4 years somehow. It was awesome to walk inside and imagine what it would have been like in its heyday. Some of the towers offer amazing 360 views, and were pretty precarious with the old steps, but worth the dizzying staircases.

After we were content with the castle, we wandered over some of the city walls to get a better look at the town. We then headed through the centre, stopped at an op-shop and got Will another jacket, and walked along the pier as one final goodbye to a lovely town. A fun highlight was seeing a bus make it through and under the bridge walls- let’s hope his insurance covers wing mirrors.

The drive to Ruthin was seamless, taking us through some beautiful farming country. Ruthin Castle dates back to 1277, also built by Edward I, with previous owners including Henry VII and Elizabeth I. Over the centuries it has hosted royalty like m Edward VII and King Charles. Once we arrived Sarah had a nanna-nap and then we explored all the little nooks and crannies it had to offer. Peacocks and bunnies greeted us in abundance, the gardens were quaint, and if she appears we might see the ‘Grey Lady’ around a corner. We had dinner in the castle restaurant and did much more strolling into the evening. With clear skies and rolling hills to surround us, I’m sure we will sleep well.
