We were up early again, and headed to the train station, catching the express train to the airport. Arriving at the airport, we got through security and got to the gate. Enjoying our last cinnamon bun in Scandinavia for breakfast we then boarded the plane.

The flight was just under 2 hours and we arrived in Milan at 12. After getting through security quickly we took the airport train to the city and then another train close to our hotel. Walking 10 minutes to our hotel was our first taste of Italy. We were able to check in a little early so we headed up to freshen up for the day.

We then headed out to visit the Duomo. Walking to the main train station, which looked like an attraction in itself, and after a bit of confusion with the train system we were on our way. Exiting the Duomo underground gave us a perfect view from the piazza of the massive cathedral. Needing a bite to eat we wandered around the corner to Luini and got a panzerotti each, which were delicious hot and cold pockets of cheesy goodness.

We then entered the Duomo via the staircase to the terraces. There was amazing architecture and views of Milano, plus a unique view of the cathedral from the top. We spent sometime at the pinnacle, enjoying the various views and spires.

We then exited down into the cathedral itself and were able to meander around the beautiful church. It was incredible to be inside and very peaceful. The stained glass, altar, sculptures and more added to its unique history and space.

We then went and had our first gelato in Italia, which was very much enjoyed, and walked to the museum that held multiple Italian artists’ works from around the Renaissance period. Unfortunately we only had about 1 hour there (because we forgot we had the tickets as part of the Duomo), but there was so much amazing art to see. Beautiful oil paintings, marble sculptures and even a large collection of Da Vinci’s preserved drawings and sketches.

We then walked back to the Piazza del Duomo to explore the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. There were lots of fancy and expensive shops, way out of our taste and price range so we continued through the Galleria to a small piazza where we filled our water bottles and sat down to decide where we were going to eat.

Catching the tram back towards our hotel we stopped at a restaurant where we sat outside and enjoyed the view of city life. We shared a pizza and pasta, and once we took the first bite, it really felt like we were in Italy.

We then walked back to our hotel, enjoying all the buildings and sights along the way. We prepared ourselves for tomorrow and had an early night, ready for a packed morning tomorrow.
