We enjoyed a little sleep in before having breakfast downstairs, prepared by our host Dani. With lots of chats and laughs we then rushed down to the train station to catch the train to Varenna.

Arriving in Varenna, we walked down to the lake to catch the ferry over to Menaggio. The ride over was spectacular, as we left the port we could see more of the mountain and town we had come from. As we crossed the lake we had such great views of Bellagio and all the surrounding towns and mountains.

When we arrived in Menaggio, we walked along the promenade next to the lake, continuing all the way to the piazza. With a beach in sight we went further north along the lake, all the way to the edge of the town. We stopped at the ‘beach’ and Will went for a quick dip then we sat and enjoyed the lake.

Then we continued walking towards the next little village called Nobiallo, the further we went the better the views got back towards Menaggio.

We then walked up the hill towards the Via Regina church, which is part of a pilgrimage and also attached to part of an old Roman road that goes to Milan. It also had great views of the lake and Menaggio. Unfortunately the church wasn’t open, so we walked back via the Roman road, all the way back to the piazza in Menaggio.

We enjoyed pizzas for a late lunch at Pesin then rushed off to the pier to catch the 2:25 ferry. Although we were running on standard time, forgetting that Italy runs on Italian time, so the ferry arrived at around 3pm.

Getting off at Bellagio, we walked up the Salita Serbelloni stairway. It was very busy the whole way up, we then continued to the Basilica di San Giacomo, then down to the lake at the tip of the town. After walking the pier we put our feet in before Will went for a quick swim.

We then walked back to the ferry and waited in line for our ferry back to Lierna. Again the views were amazing both ways on the lake. After arriving we walked back to the B&B to get changed then headed back out to go to the beach. We had a lovely early evening swim as the sun was lowering behind the mountains.

We then walked back to the B&B to have a shower and head out for dinner. Walking to the Blue Flower for dinner again and shared pizzas, and again they were amazing. After the sun had set we walked down to get gelato, walked along the lake and sat to enjoy the lights across the lake, then heading back to pack and get ready for our journey to Cinque Terre.
