After waking from a good sleep in, we headed down for a Finnish buffet breakfast. It was a very good spread, and we just took our time enjoying a slow morning.
We packed then, checked out and walked to catch the tram to the ferry terminal. After checking in, we headed onboard the ferry, which was really a massive cruise ship. We got a spot at the back of the ship, at an enclosed outdoors area, settling in for the 2 hour journey over the Baltic Sea.
We both wandered around the ship, popping into the shops, deck and cafes on board.
We arrived in Estonia and headed to our accommodation, about a 25 minute walk from the docks to the Old Town.
We then dropped our bags, and headed out for a chill lunch. Savoury strudels and a coffee later, we then checked into the hotel.
We then did lots of sightseeing, by just walking around town, as everything was very close by. We first went to the Holy Spirit Church, built in the 16th century and it was very stripped back style with lots of wood and stained glass.
We then made our way to the to the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, with its domed tops and grand architecture. The first church we have been to with no seating.
We then went to some local viewpoints over the city. It was great to see the 15th century blend with the current, making for an interesting cityscape.
It was then off to the medieval city walls and towers, so well preserved for its age. With lots of little exhibitions, views, history and stairs, it was well worth the hour speed tour.
We then headed off to dinner, which turned out to be a very fancy meal… the hint was the waiter asking “can I introduce your meal tonight”, when it came to the table. Surprisingly it was a pretty decent price. And it was delicious! We got elk and chicken to share.
We then wandered to the town square to people-watch and Sarah enjoyed her bread chocolate she purchased from the corner store. We then wondered back to the hotel for bed. Overall a pretty great speed-tour of Tallinn.
